Most of us, at some point on the golf course, get tired of feeling bad. We’ve hit enough bad shots or run up the score high enough that we finally (often unconsciously) chill, relax, accept, and let go. In the moment our energy shifts into an attitude of surrender – something we could do long before we allow the negativity to take hold – we start to play well again. We no longer fight with ourselves and push the good stuff away, staying clear of the emotions where our hissy fits could do nothing other than beat us up and wear us down.

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR VERY OWN
JIM DURR
who is the 2014 Senior
Northern East Ohio Amateur Invitational
CHAMPION!!!

Contested on June, 16th, 18th, & 23rd
Notes from NOGA.org about the event:

DAY 1:  "In the Senior Flight Jim Durr who is a member at Silver Lake shot the low score of 2-under 70. Durr was able to use his course knowledge to his advantage by making five birdies on the round and playing consistent throughout the round. Two players are tied for second - past champion Jim Harless from Barrington and Signature of Solon's Marc Fried who shot even-par 72.
Silver Lake Country Club was a wonderful host for our first round. The course was in great condition and the hospitality was second to none. The second round will be held on June 18 at Madison Golf and Country Club."

DAY 2: "The Senior Division had another strong showing from Jim Durr of Silver Lake Country Club after posting an even-par 71. Durr has a six shot lead over Mike Cassell from the Country Club of Hudson who is currently at 4-over for the tournament. The seniors will play 18 holes monday morning at The Country Club to determine the champion."

DAY 3: "Jim Durr of Silver Lake Country Club had to hold on over the final nine holes to win his first NEOA Senior title. Durr built a six-shot lead over the first two rounds of the championship and needed all of that lead after a final-round 79 to finish at 5-over 220. He shot 1-over on his last 11 holes and held on for a one-stroke victory over C.C. of Hudson’s Mike Cassell and Signature of Solon’s Marc Fried, who finished runner-up for the third straight year. Cassell, last year's NOGA Senior Player of the Year, posted a final-round 74 and Fried shot 1-over 73.
Special thanks to Silver Lake Country Club, Madison Golf & Country Club and The Country Club for hosting this year’s championship. All three courses were outstanding hosts, especially The Country Club which hosted the 36-hole finals and was in near-perfect condition."

"The root cause of all negative emotion is really a rather simple one: desire is out of sync with belief. When we feel optimistic and hopeful about getting what we want, the desire feels sweet and the journey is a joyful ride. (The manifestation also quickly takes place.) But when what we want seems unattainable (never true) or we keep taking score that it has not yet arrived (impatience), we keep pushing it away. Not only do we indefinitely delay the arrival of what we want, we feel unhappy and miserable along the way. The key, then, is to feel the satisfaction of what is about to arrive before it has taken physical shape."

WADGA Results

June 20th, 2014

Congratulations to the following ladies for placing in the recent WADGA event at Fairlawn Country Club!

3rd Flight
Carolyn Henretta & Sheri Williams: T-2nd Low Net

4th Flight
Fran Grajzl: 3rd Low Gross

1. The first approach is a traditional model in which golf is a very conditional/results-oriented game. If I’m playing well, I am happy; if I’m playing poorly, I am not. Unfortunately, with yo-yo emotions comes a yo-yo game and a yo-yo life, simply because we attach joy and happiness – and at times our very self-esteem – to conditions well outside our control.

2. The second approach offers an “emotional energy model” in which improved golf becomes the natural byproduct of a better-feeling mood. Our goal is to feel better first – something within our control – and to bring this higher vibrating energy into our practice and play. Improved performance unfolds because of inspired (rather than required) action and as an “effort-less” consequence of our improved attitude.

Most of us don’t consider how our self-talk directly affects our performance and play. Unlike the immediate feedback we get from the body and the swing, we fail to see a real-time correlation between the quality of our shots and the content of our mouths.  From an energy standpoint, however, there is no way we can berate ourselves on any level and hope to optimize performance and success. Just as there is no such thing as an ordinary thought, there is no such thing as an ordinary word. In a very real sense, the pen remains far mightier than the sword.

The 2014 Men's
Net Championship
June 14th & 15th

The Men's Net Championship was contested this Father's Day weekend along with another biggish tournament…the US OPEN.  At Pinehurst, Martin Kaymer played brilliantly and was in control the entire tournament.  A similar performance was being put on at our Net Championship where Leo Bailey opened with an amazing round of 63 giving him a 5 shot lead.

On day two it looked like Rick Archer was going to make a run at Leo turning with a net 25 on the front 9!  Unfortunately he ran into some trouble in the "Swan's Nest" (Holes 13, 14, and 15), but still finished with a great round of net 64.  Mr. Bailey was able to follow up his great first round score with a solid 66 in round two.   He credits an adjustment in his takeaway which dramatically improved his ball striking, as well as a putting tip from his nephew which helped him only have one 3-putt over the course of 36 holes.  A mighty fine accomplishment on greens that were rolling very nice and hole locations that were of a championship caliber.  Congratulation Mr. Bailey!

Round 1 Results & Round 2 Pairings

"Ultimately, the battle we face in golf is not against our swings or the course or our playing partners or the wind and rain. Instead, the battle rages against our own internal limitations and our distorted perception of who we mistakenly think we are.  As long as we remain attached to our unresolved internal anxieties and fears – which play themselves out through many obvious and not-so-obvious words and patterns of behavior – we will never achieve our true potential. There is not a solid enough golf game in the Universe to compensate for a mind that cannot first make peace within itself. "

"If the golf shot is upsetting to us, we were already in an upset (or emotionally similar) state of mind.  This is the “first cause/missing link” that few players grasp or even want to understand.  We would sooner think that our errant shots are totally random with results that appear out of the blue.  Like it or not, there is never a shot that is accidental and not on some level imagined or “dis-imagined” inside of us first.  The shots that appear are always the physical manifestation of the internal mind chatter that is going on before we hit the ball.  In other words, unwanted outcomes may come out of the oblivious (lack of emotional awareness), but they don’t come from out of the blue."  -Spirit of Golf

"Technically, it is thought that triggers emotion that stimulates energy inside of us that allows the body – via the cells, muscles, and joints – to move freely or in a tense or resistant way.  It is always mind over matter, which is precisely why the first cause of any golf swing is less about grip, posture, and stance than attitude, attitude, and attitude." - Spirit of Golf
