The deeper part of who we already are knows that most of what we think of as reality can be perceived a million different ways – after all, there are billions of differing viewpoints on the planet. With a stubborn, opinionated, fearful mind, we lose much of our ability to see things in a new, more objective and powerful light. We keep attracting the same old stuff, not because we don’t want something new and improved, but because we haven’t figured out a way to imagine things outside our current comfy box.

As we learn to acclimate to positive emotions and how wonderful they feel, we find ourselves increasingly unwilling to tolerate unhappiness again (we don’t like feeling bad for any other reason than it feels bad to feel bad).  We taste the sweetness of feeling happy and joyful more of the time, and we begin to do everything within our power to keep the energy flowing from moment to moment and day to day.  Of course this doesn’t mean we are in a great mood all the time.  The quest for joy becomes so dominant within us, however, that we do whatever it takes to keep ourselves in a good emotional space.  We no longer allow conditions outside our control –including golf shots – to negatively affect our attitudes and moods, since there can no longer be a moment in which we’ll want to live other than in a deeply centered and peaceful way.

It can seem like we have our emotions in a solid feeling space when we are on the practice range and the nervousness is not turned to hi. On the other hand, most of us have lived first-hand how quickly this mind state can change as we head to the course to play or compete. It is only by learning to deliberately identify and practice how we want to feel when we are calm and centered that we have access to a skill set to tap into when it is required. The time to practice the emotional work is long before any negative momentum is creeping into our games, which really means long before we throw ourselves into “the scene of the crime.”

Congratulations to our very own
Glenn Cunningham
on his 3rd Place finish at the
Northern Ohio PGA
Assistant Professional Championship!

Shawnee Country Club, Lima:  Glenn went down on Monday to get a first look at the mysterious Shawnee CC and played a very rewarding practice round.  Mother Nature ended up giving the event a break as storm rolled through early Tuesday morning giving way to clear skies for the 36 holes of golf to be played that day.

Round one was very much a test of patience for Glenn as he found himself 2 over through 14 holes.  Back to back birdies on his 15th and 16th hole of the round (holes 6 & 7) and he was right back to even for the tournament.  He bogeyed 8, but finished strong with another birdie on 9 finishing Even Par after round one which featured 6 birdies and 6 bogeys.

After an inspirational text from Joe, Glenn was ready to go low in round two.  He opened round two with a birdie on #1, but gave it back on #4.  Another birdie and bogey on the front 9, left Glenn still at even par for the event through 27 holes.

Glenn made the turn and turned the jets on!  He birdied the 10th hole to get under par and didn't stop there.  After a par on the 11th he rattled off two birdies in a row on 12 and 13 to get to 3 under for the tournament.  Playing alongside the eventual champion, Mike Stone, Glenn knew he was right in the mix.  Another birdie at the par 5 16th got Glenn to within 1 of the lead.

Although he was not able to birdie either of the last two holes to get into a playoff, a bogey free back nine 32 gave Glenn a solo 3rd place finish and a birth in the PGA of America's National Assistant's Championship in Port St. Lucie Florida!
