2013 Men's
Senior Club Championship

The Senior Club Championship was once again altered by mother nature.  Last year the weekend was a wash and the entire event needed to be rescheduled.  This year she tried to rain us out again, but our drainage overcame her best effort (2+ inches of rain over Friday and Saturday) and the event only suffered the loss of one round.

A hearty field of 18 players tee'd it up Sunday on a course which was playing long and soft.  Like any good championship, there was plenty of drama coming down the stretch.  Jim Durr had a 3 shot lead over Ron Helon and a 5 shot lead over Ric Haury standing on the 14th tee.  But after two errant drives that found out of bounds from Durr resulting in a 8, a bogey by Ron Helon, and a birdie by Ric Haury all three players were even going down #15.  Haury followed up his clutch birdie with another at #15 from 15 feet to take a one shot lead over Durr who bounced back with a solid par.  Helon made bogey on #15 to stay within 2 shots of the lead.

Momentum swung back in the favor of Durr on #16 as he struck back with a birdie of his own from 8 feet.  Haury would bogey the 16th giving a 1 stroke lead back to Durr.  Helon made a solid par on 16 to stay just 2 back.  All three players made par on #17 leaving our great finishing hole to determine the champion.

All three players were in play off the tee.  Haury was first to play and came up short in the right green side bunker.  Helon and Durr both came up just short leaving delicates chips on rain softened turf.
Haury couldn't muster any magic on the bunker shot and his ball sailed just over the green.  A pitch onto the green followed by 2 putts put him at +5 for the championship.  Durr and Helon both hit solid chips.  Helon was away for par and he rolled in his putt finishing at +4 for the championship.  All eyes were now on Durr who needed a 2 putt to avoid a playoff.  He was able to get his first putt close and knocked in his bogey putt to finish +3 taking home his third Senior Club Championship in a row!

In the NET portion of the event, Percy Grenfell posted an early clubhouse lead of 1 under par despite being struck by an errant tee shot from an un-named competitor while playing the 8th hole.

He managed to dodge all other shots taken by other competitors including a great round of even par net 72 by Pete Oldham and a few net 73's posted by Tim Truby, Paul Appleby, and Ron Helon.

Thank you to all who participated and Congratulations to our

Patriot Golf Day is the flagship fundraiser for the Folds of Honor Foundation, a  nonprofit organization that provides postsecondary educational scholarships for the children and spouses of military men and women disabled or killed while serving our great nation. On Labor Day weekend, golfers across the country are asked to add an extra dollar to their greens fees to fund Folds of Honor scholarships. The Patriot Golf Day campaign is jointly supported by The PGA of America and the United States Golf Association

2013 Men's
Club Championship

FINAL'S MATCH RECAP
The 2013 Men's Club Championship was decided this past Sunday as both the Semi-Finals and Finals matches were played over the weekend.  Hopefully you were able to follow the action via our Twitter Feed which is located on the home page of this Blog.  You can scroll back and see how the drama folded out.  A special thanks to our Assistant Professional, Glenn, who provided the excellent coverage.  The finals match between Jim Durr and Mark Guadagni was that of championship proportions.  Guadagni took an early 2 up lead, but Durr pulled even after 9 holes.  Durr then won both 10 and 11 to take a 2 up lead with 7 to play (winning 4 holes in a row).  However, a rare short miss on the 12 hole for birdie by Durr was the turning point of the match.  Durr would then three putt the 13th losing the hole and then Guadagni made a tremendous putt on 14 for birdie to bring the match back to all square.  Guadagni made another great birdie on 15 to take a 1 up lead.  After a wayward approach shot on 16 that found the hazard, Durr conceded the 16th hole to give Guadagni a 2 up lead with 2 to play.  Both players hit the 17th green with Durr being away.  Durr would three putt after an aggresive birdie attempt, and conceded the hole and championship to Guadagni.  Congratulations to both Mr. Durr and Mr. Guadagni and their fine play.
